Created Issue: Adding the Coverflow Control to a silverlight 4 application throws and error [6638]

I have updated my Visual Studio and Silverlight tools until today. When I create a silverlight application using silverlight 4 and add the CoverFlow control
to the page it throws the error :Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component.
I tried using Silverlight 3, and it does not throw any errors at all. I have also tried adding the System.Windows.Controls.Data.Input to the project reference
and import to the page with control xmlns:my="clr-namespace:System.Windows.Controls;assembly=System.Windows.Controls.Data.Input" .

Even after doing that it still throws the same error. Can you please suggest me what I should be doing ?

I've added a reference to the DC.ControlLibrary.DLL. Whenever I try and add the coverflowControl I get the following error:

Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component.

I'm a complete newbie when it comes to silverlight/expression 4 so it's probably something I'm doing wrong...

@gdorigo, I encountered the same issue described above when I use Silverlight 4. I have the VS 2010 SP1 up to date until today. I tried again, the way you suggested, but it still returns the same error.
When I try to implement the DC.ControlLibray thing using a Silverlight 3, it does not throw any error, it works seamlessly. The issue is only when I create a silverlight 4 application. Please advice......

When I create a silverlight application with Silverlight 4 and add the coverlfow control tomy pages it throws an error Error hresult e_fail has been returned from a call to a com component. When I do the same thing under silverlight 3 I do not get any such error.Please advice......

First off great control, this is probably the best SL coverflow I've seen out there. I'm having one issue though... the first version (on the download page, that has Previous / Next buttons, etc) worked great with wiring up a WCF service and to pass Image URL's to the flowControl. I really like the latest version (47814) though, with the border highlights, cornering, and titles etc. So I've been trying to get that working. My WCF call is working as expected, but the images never load, just the titles. Looking at Fiddler, it never attempts to get the image resource files like it did with the first version of the coverflow control. What am I missing here? Is it something to do with the new "ConvertURL" functionality or Caching?

Project Description
Cover flow implemented in Silverlight 3.

I wanted to start getting into Silverlight 3 and learn more about extending the ItemsControl. So, I decided to do a cover flow control (there are surprising few out there). I've uploaded the source and can be downloaded in the downloads section and a live example can be viewed here.

I tried to make if fairly robust. It can take any controls by using the data template (which must be done for now, I haven't implement a DisplayMemberPath yet). Also the layout is pretty flexible and offers control over the following:

Space between items
Space between the selected item and the other items
The angle non selected items are at
The the depth of non selected items
The scale of non selected items (depth and scale offer very similar effects, but are slightly different)
The duration it take to switch selected items
the easing function of the animations

All of these items can be changed dynamically as shown in the example. Items can also be switch by next, previous, next page, previous page, first, last, or by clicking on them. The keyboard can also be used. The arrow keys work (the cover flow slider needs to have focus for the arrow keys to work so I am using some of the alphabet keys A,S,D,W,Q,E as well).

A few of the new Silverlight beta 3 things are:

PlaneProjection
Easing
Element Data Binding (I think this one is pretty cool, all the sliders are bound this way)
GPU Acceleration on media playback
H264 high def video playback

A quick note about the GPU Acceleration. I tried using this on the cover flow control, and it seemed to work until you scroll/flow down the list to far then it starts to freak out. Maybe the silverlight people can look at this. But if that can be fixed in the release version, that should speed things up quite a bit.

edit: As of v 0.2 it runs pretty smooth, unles there are a lot of items and you click on first/last and it is at the opposite end, then it will be choppier, but other than that, it should run pretty smooth. I tried it with almost 400 items and I didn't notice any difference that if there were 60.

The data is from Apple Quicktime movie trailers and so are the movie files being played. I didn't spend much time on the actual viewing experience of the movie trailer since that wan't the purpose.

I welcome any feedback or any suggestion on how make this control better/faster. This is my first ItemsControl so, there may be better ways of doing things.

Hey Darick or anyone else that can help,

I running into some of the same issues as others on this board. I've download the code...very cool thanks for posting. I got it up and running straight out of VS 2010. If I hit the website (default html) using mozilla or I.E. I get the error ""There was an error retrieving xml"."

If i'm using the apple xml file or my own and run it through VS 2010 debug it works and fires but if it is not through VS just through a browser I get the error.

As derick point out the application is a .Net application and requires a webserver to run the .Net part but my machine is a web server and I am running IIS.

So I'm wondering why it can make the connection when I launch debug from VS 2010 but it can't when I go directly through the web browser. Obviously when I launch through VS my web address looks something like http://localhost:52703/Default.html and when I go through a browser I'm typing in http://servername/AppFinder/CoverFlowWeb/Default.html

Can someone suggestion something else or sheds some more light on this...I've spent days trying to get it to run from the browser and can't.

Great control. I've used it to display dialogs, charts and whatnot.

But here's a question: how can I change the order of the covers? I'd like to add 'move page left'/'...right' functionality.

Tweaking with the observablecollection doesn't work (exception). Setting the control's ItemsSource to null and then back to the reordered observablecollection doesn't work (exception).

This is probably one of those 'be prepared to slap yourself of the forehead' -things but I can't figure this out by myself.

Thanks already in advance for any ideas.

Hi,

Is there any way where I can extend the album cover to flip and view the song list just like in a Iphone?? There is a nice tutorial on silverlight.net about implementing a flip but not sure how do I integrate to this control. Any pointers would be helpful.

I'm not sure if you can port this to WPF.. But you have FluidKit which provides the same functionality... Its wonderful and i've had a look at it recently... You guys can definitely check that out...

Hello, sorry if my question is too trivial. I just downloaded CoverFlow.zip and run the sample project in VSTO 2010, which works very well. But I would like to understand how should I upgrade the new assembly dc.controlibrary.dll. Should I remove add a reference to this new assembly?

Hello,

This will teach me to accept working on a project without having time to study the technology beforehand. With no Silverlight background I completly forgot to implement INotifyPropertyChanged in the items I bound on the control.

Once done, everything works like a charm. Hopes it could helps other .
